Making the Leap: Becoming a Stronger Mentor and Manager

November 30, 2022
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
America/New_York
Gary C. Comer Geochemistry Building, 61 Route 9W, Palisades, NY 10964 Seminar Room

Making the Leap is a series of panel discussions within the LEAD program focused on highlighting Climate School researchers' perspectives on important leadership topics. Past panels include Making the Leap: The Journey to Lead PI. This panel will focus on managing and mentoring.

As one grows in their career, there is a focus on managing and mentoring. Sometimes, the two words are used interchangabeably. However, a mentor is not always a manager and there are different skillsets associated with managing and mentoring. This panel will explore the difference between the two and how they typically converge. We will hear from Drs. Bob Chen, Vicki Ferrini, Michael Puma, and Kirsty Tinto as they discuss their experience managing people, projects, and teams, building their research group, and their perspective on the difference between managing and mentoring. This event will take place in person on the Lamont campus in the Comer Seminar Room with an option to join virtually via Zoom. Please register if you would like to receive the Zoom link. Light refreshments will be served.
