The Earth Science Colloquium Series presents:

Fate and Consequences of the Lunar Magma Ocean

with Dr. Alexander Evans, Assistant Professor, Brown University.

Abstract: Although several aspects of the early evolution of our Solar System remain enshrouded in mystery, the Moon's well-preserved and ancient surface has captured much of our Solar System's history. Thanks to the accessibility and data returned from orbital and landed spacecraft, the Moon plays a unique role in enhancing our understanding and refining our knowledge of the evolution of the planets within our Solar System, as well as the timing of its significant events. In this talk, I will endeavor to unravel some of the Moon's mysteries, starting with the fate and consequences of the lunar magma ocean, aiming to shed new light on the Moon, Earth, and the broader Solar System.

Host:  Dr. Roger Buck, Lamont Research Professor, Marine and Polar Geophysics.

The Earth Science Colloquium Series, sponsored by Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia University Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES), provides a lively forum for discussing a wide variety of topics within the Earth sciences and related fields. Colloquia are attended by the full range of scientific and technical staff at LDEO. Colloquium attendance is required of all pre-orals DEES graduate students. The Colloquium Series supports the Lamont Seminar Diversity Initiative
