The Earth Science Colloquium Series presents:

Advancing Arctic science as the world warms

Dr. Jennifer Kay, Associate Professor at the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Colorado, Boulder.

Abstract: Over my lifetime, dramatic increases in greenhouse gases, Arctic sea ice loss, and Arctic warming have all occurred. As the Arctic continues to change in front of our eyes, the resulting impacts affect those living in the Arctic and beyond. My talk will summarize research that has increased the process understanding of recent Arctic climate change based on observations and modeling.  How much of the observed Arctic change is due to human activities?  When will the Arctic Ocean go ice-free?  How are clouds and precipitation changing as the Arctic Ocean loses its sea ice? I will end by highlighting new opportunities to advance Arctic climate science as the world continues to warm.

Host:  Dr. Yutian Wu, Lamont Associate Research Professor, Ocean and Climate Physics.

The Earth Science Colloquium Series, sponsored by Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia University Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES), provides a lively forum for discussing a wide variety of topics within the Earth sciences and related fields. Colloquia are attended by the full range of scientific and technical staff at LDEO. Colloquium attendance is required of all pre-orals DEES graduate students. The Colloquium Series supports the Lamont Seminar Diversity Initiative
