Sustain What?
Live Update from the Final Hours of COP-27 Climate Treaty Talks
On Friday November 18th at 9 a.m. US Eastern time, veteran climate journalist Andy Revkin of the Columbia Climate School hosts a fresh live Sustain What chat with participants and journalists in the final hours of climate treaty negotiations in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Friday is technically the final day but these sessions almost invariably run late given the array of fraught issues, with deep divisions remaining between rich and poor countries.
Please post questions and comments about this diplomatic and geopolitical climate tussle in the meantime at the COP27 post on Revkin's Sustain What dispatch here: https://revkin.subdstack.com
We’ll discuss the keystone debate over what rich carbon emitters owe poor countries for “loss and damage” from climate change impacts. We’ll check in on lagging adaptation commitments and efforts to solidify carbon accounting given the explosion of “net zero” pledges.
