Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) Role in the Hudson River System

Submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) are beds of subtidal plant communities that live in fairly shallow water and are extremely important for the Hudson River estuarine system, providing essential ecosystem functions and services. 

This resource includes a teacher’s guide to the two Submerged Aquatic Vegetation activities that will be used in conjunction with the presentation: Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) Role in the Hudson River System. The activities in this lesson plan include Mapping SAVs in the Hudson and SAV Monitoring of Stony Point Bay. Discussion questions follow each activity that are intended to engage the students in deeper critical thinking and then be discussed as a class.
