Activating the Climate Vote in 2024: A Conversation with Catherine McKenna

Date: Tuesday, September 24

Location: Columbia Career Design Lab (729 Seventh Avenue at 49th Street, 3rd Floor)

Time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Beer, wine, and light appetizers included

Time Magazine calls 2024 the election year because “more voters than ever in history will head to the polls as at least 64 countries (plus the European Union) . . . hold national elections.” This is an opportunity to elect officials who will address climate change, yet the issue is rarely a top priority for voters. Join fellow Columbia alumni for a dynamic conversation with Catherine McKenna about why climate politics are so complicated and what each of us can do to activate the climate vote in our communities. Catherine will share her insights as a former politician and passionate advocate who understands that “governments will break your heart sometimes, but people are real and want climate action.” The program will begin promptly at 5:15pm.

Speaker Bio

She is currently a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Columbia’s Climate School, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Climate and Nature Solutions and the Chair of the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Commitments of Non-State Entities.
