Climate Sensitivity in the Southern Andes: An Analysis of Tree-Ring Width and Stable Isotopes of Austrocedrus chilensis in Patagonia
Abstract : Environmental changes, such as more frequent and severe droughts, are a documented reality in the Patagonian region of South America. Understanding this climate variability requires an examination of the complex interaction between anthropogenic factors and natural processes. This seminar presents an update and methodological expansion of tree-ring chronologies of Austrocedrus chilensis ("Ciprés de la Cordillera"), using tree- ring width and stable isotope composition. The research provides an overview of the variability of these chronologies and establishes their relationship with climate. This information is fundamental to advancing paleoclimatic reconstructions at various spatial and temporal scales and for contextualizing current climate trends and for making more accurate hypotheses about the future environmental behavior of the region.
