Event Description

Community engagement and co-creation are core principles among many higher education institutions. However, they are difficult to actualize in practice with limited budgets, funding timelines, and shifting priorities. This session will explore the field work of managing climate change impact projects through two different research centers at the Columbia Climate School, along with community partners engaged in some of this work. This will include exploring how Columbia University is working with communities in Chile with local universities and civil society partners to achieve national climate goals through technical assistance and co-creation workshops. Representatives from two of the partner communities will also participate in the panel to provide their experience. This panel will also highlight community partnerships through the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment at the Columbia Climate School, for projects ranging from working with coffee farmers in Latin America and optimizing land governance, as well as spatial planning processes in Indonesia, among other efforts to bridge research and policy with community practice.
