The Lamont Earth Science Colloquium presents:
Ocean Based Technology Development
Dr. Vincent Pieribone, Co-CEO & Chief Science Officer, OceanX; Adjunct Senior Research Scientist, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
Our laboratory has been developing technology to study basic scientific questions and purpose built to solve practical problems in fields of neuroscience, energy and defense. While not intentional, we have used a variety of marine experimental models for this work. I will present our study of neural network activity in lamprey, Drosophila and mice, our study of marine fluorescence and bioluminescence as tools for biomolecular sensor development and finally I will also present our attempts to use marine algae to generate electricity.
Host: Dr. Joaquim Goes, Lamont Research Professor, Biology and Paleo Environment, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
The Earth Science Colloquium Series, sponsored by Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia University Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES), provides a lively forum for discussing a wide variety of topics within the Earth sciences and related fields. Colloquia are attended by the full range of scientific and technical staff at LDEO. Colloquium attendance is required of all pre-orals DEES graduate students.
