Rethink Waste. Reduce Emissions. Unlock Value.

Resource scarcity, shifting global supply chains, and climate change are reshaping the landscape for businesses, governments, and communities. We need solutions that create economic value for businesses and individuals while advancing climate goals. One place to look for these solutions is in our waste.

The Circularity Gap Report estimates that roughly €25.4 trillion in economic value is lost globally each year through linear “take-make-waste” practices. This “Value Gap” represents 31% of global GDP, meaning that for every €3 of economic value created worldwide, about €1 is lost.

Increasing circularity, which simply means keeping materials in use for as long as possible, could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 39%. Circularity is not only good for the bottom line and the environment, but can also improve quality of life through more durable products, greater affordability, and connected communities.

If the benefits are so clear, what will it take to scale circularity? How do we align businesses, governments, and communities around a shared path forward?

To kick off Climate Week NYC, Scandinavia House is pleased to partner with Columbia Climate School for a conversation on the promise of a circular economy. Join leaders from the public and private sectors as they explore practical solutions and emerging innovations, lessons learned from Nordic leadership, and the challenges that remain. The program will conclude with a special announcement from Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, followed by a reception to connect and continue the conversation.
