Student Roundtable and Lunch with David Hill and Cheryl LaFleur

This roundtable is open only to currently-enrolled Columbia University students.

Please join the Center on Global Energy Policy for a student-only lunch and roundtable discussion with David Hill, CGEP Adjunct Senior Research Scholar and former General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Energy, and Cheryl LaFleur, CGEP Adjunct Senior Research Scholar, CGEP Advisory Board Member, and former Chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
 
They will discuss hot topics on the U.S. energy scene and cover their academic and career histories before moving into an open conversation. Lunch will be provided. 
 
Biographies

  • David R. Hill is an attorney and an adjunct senior research scholar at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Independent System Operator, Inc., and has his own legal and consulting practice in Princeton, NJ. David served as General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Energy from 2005 – 2009, and as Executive Vice President & General Counsel of NRG Energy, Inc. from 2012 – 2018. He also has been a partner at law firms in Washington, DC and Kansas City, Mo.  He received his B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Missouri, and his J.D. from Northwestern University.
  • Cheryl LaFleur is an Adjunct Senior Research Scholar and Advisory Board member at CGEP. She is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISO New England, which operates the electric grid and markets for New England. LaFleur was one of the longest-serving Commissioners on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, serving from 2010 until 2019 and as Chairman from 2013-15 and during 2017. Previously, LaFleur had more than 20 years’ experience as a leader in the electric industry, including as COO of National Grid USA. She began her career as an attorney and has a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an A.B. from Princeton University.
